End of a Year Self Defense Family - Songs with Caroline Corrigan

Genre: Punk/Post-Hardcore/Indie
FFO: Lemuria, Rites of Spring, End of a Year

End of a Year played a show in Connecticut with Pissed Jeans, Cold Snap, Hostage Calm, SOFX, and Give the other night, except it wasn't the EOAY that everyone was expecting. All the people who played are all in, or at least affiliated with the band like touring members, session or recording members. The first thing that everyone noticed immediately was that Pat was not on stage, it was Caroline (and she did a fantastic job, so did the rest of the band). And even though Pat wasn't there, his voice was heard. He recorded stage banter to explain why him, and the normal EOAY wasn't there. They're in Jamaica recording a new album. But Enough about the show. The songs in this file are all End of a Year songs, just with Caroline singing instead of Pat. The songs are all alternate versions of the band's latest full length, You Are Beneath Me. I think these versions of the songs are great, but I'm also a sucker for cute girls and female vocals.

Tigers Jaw - Two Worlds

Genre: Pop Punk/Emo/Indie
FFO: Mineral, Balance And Composure, The Promise Ring

There are times that Tigers Jaw reminds of 90's emo bands like Mineral and The Promise Ring, especially with the vocals, but overall Tigers Jaw is doing their own thing and I really enjoy almost everything they've done. If you've never listened to this band before, you should definitely start with their Self Titled, and then give this a shot.

Vestiges - The Decent of Man

Genre: Hardcore/Black Metal/Crust/Post Rock
FFO: Trenches, His Hero Is Gone, Cursed, Black Sheep Wall

Vestiges is a two piece Concept band. This album, as the title suggests, follows the decent of man. As you listen to the album, you can definitely pick up on Vestiges wide range of influences. They have build ups that sound like they belong on a Post-Rock record, Blast Beats that that scream Black Metal, and vocals that sound like Crust.

Wrench In The Works - Limited EP

Genre: Hardcore/Metalcore
FFO: Trap Them, Converge, Blood Has Been Shed

This is one of the band's earlier releases. This came out in 2003, 2 years before their first full length Prodigal Transmission. This EP had some really cool packaging, it came in little boxes that had hand written words written on the sides of the boxes. Inside the boxes were lyric sheets and album art. The album art for each box was different, and one of a kind.

Groundwork - Today We Will Not Be Invisible Nor Silent

Genre: Hardcore/Metalcore
FFO: Harvest, Disembodied, Trial

Groundwork was a band from Arizona that existed in the 90's. This album is a collection of all their 7"'s, including tracks from their split with Unbroken. The only thing missing from this collection that would make it a discography are their demos. This band has a huge sound that a lot of bands that came after them have tried to emulate, but haven't been able to do it nearly as well.
